Contact: Information Department Metei Insurgent Outfit and Burmese Soldiers Extort Money in Thuambual Village Captain Tun Hla of Light Infantry Battalion No 50. stationed in Cikha Town, Chin State, Myanmar, transferred from Gangaw, Magwe Division, forcibly asked 200,000 Rupees in Thuambual village, Tonzang Township, Chin State, which was to be paid within one week, during the second week of December 2009. Thuambual is a village with 35 houses, striving hardly for their livelihood that there is no way to collect the amount of 200,000 Rupees. In fear of their village burned and persecution, village elders collected money from possible sources and received only 100,000 Rupees. Burmese soldiers combined with Meitei insurgent outfits have been bullying the villages for along time already. When the representatives from Thuambual village went to Suang Hoih village on 19 December 2009 to give the extorted money, 100,000 Rupees, they were badly assaulted by Burmese soldiers and Meitei insurgents for not giving the amount of money they forcibly asked, and the delay of paying it. When the villagers from neighboring village heard about the bully and money extortion in Thuambual by Burmese soldiers and Meitei insurgents, they were shock and in great fear. As the People Liberation Army (PLA) has camped along the indo-Burma, in village and farmland it makes the villagers difficult going to their farmland, and miserable in their daily living. The Meiteis have already declared ‘Your land has been under our control’, moreover, they added ‘ We will never go out from Zoland’. On the land where our forefathers came into being and succeed from generation to generation, we have been treated like stranger under the threat of Meiteis, and have lost the right of being rulers of our land. We have been reaching to the situation of lack of peace and stability. Since the Meiteis camped in Zoland with the concession of Burmese army, the suffering and hardship of the local people is severe and great, said villagers of Thuambual and villagers from along the border.
