As the sun tried to break through the early morning mist in Tedim, the great sons and daughters of Zogam began arriving in droves at Khuado Hall for the 3rd annual Siamsin Seminar. Inspired with a vision for hope and change in Zogam, these active young leaders represent a rising generation working to build movements, catalyze change and transform lives in their communities in Zogam and beyond.
Zomi icons including Pu Chin Sian Thang (Chairman of Zomi National Congress), retired Professor Dr. C. Thang Za Tuan and Pu Zozam Cin Pau(Population Service International) are among the honour of guests and resource persons invited for the seminar. These leaders personally spoke directly into the hearts and minds of youth motivating them to work collaboratively and in partnership to create the kind of meaningful and lasting change for development in Zogam.
Pu Chin Sian Thang was not allowed to participate in the seminar by the Township Peace and Development Council. Tg. Zam Thuam, President of Zomi Siamsin Kipawlna requested permission from the State Head office of SPDC in Hakha. Instead of giving their support, the authorities threatened to stop the seminar.
Harassment and intimidation by local authorities couldn’t stop the spirit of these young people. Although Pu Chin Sian Thang wasn’t allowed to participate in the seminar, his presence in Tedim alone had awaked the whole town. The voice of freedom cannot be suppressed. It’s in the hearts and mind of young people.
At the end of the seminar, they continue a trip to the famous Rih lake of Chin State. Many young students take this opportunity to visit Rih which symbolized unity among the Zomi (Chin) from India and Myanmar. The annual seminar began on November 24, 2009 was successfully concluded on November 29, 2009.
